Tuesday 17 March 1998—Saturday 21 March 1998
Set in Lambeth, Mayfair and Hampshire in the late 1930’s, ‘Me and My Girl’ tell the rags to riches story of Bill Snibson, Cockney barrow boy extraordinaire, who inherits both a title and a fortune as a result of an unfortunate liaison years earlier between the late Earl of Hareford and Bill’s mother. Bill stumbles through his education at Hareford Hall, often with hilarious results, as the Duchess attempts to make a proper Lord of her new relative. In tow is Bill’s girlfriend, Sally, who attempts to hold on to the old Bill as her rival for his affections, the predatory Jacquie, sees Bill as her ticket to larger riches.
Bill eventually succumbs to aristrocratic life, but before preparing his maiden speech in the House of Lords, he introduces his new family to the joys of Cockney life and they all find themselves doing the ‘Lambeth Walk’. The question remains, who wins the key to Bill’s heart, or fortune as the case may be…
